A huge thank you to all of our families who came out to our first SPES Block Party! We loved seeing everyone, even with the rain. 

It was wonderful to welcome families back, meet teachers, visit classrooms, and get acquainted with some of our new families from Folger McKinsey and of course take a photo with Boone the Bobcat! Thank you to those families who stopped by the PTO table to learn more about volunteer opportunities and the upcoming Fall Festival.  

Thank you for making the evening so special. We’re looking forward to an amazing school year together! 

The most valuable asset within a PTO are THE MEMBERS! There are over 40 programs we manage to support at our school and it all comes together with a tremendous team effort. While we have a recommended membership due, we invite you to join us in any capacity that best suits you.  

Keep in mind that memberships do not roll over year to year. If you would like to become a member for this current school year, please click below and be sure to update your profile information at the same time! Although PTO membership is optional, everything we do benefits every SPES student, and we couldn’t do it without your support.  

Which clubs will we see this year? You will decide! All of our after-school clubs are run by parent volunteers and we are still in need of more help!  

Remember, all parent volunteers must have a current background check to help with any after-school clubs. One parent must have a fingerprint background check in order to run the club without a teacher present. Background checks can take 3 weeks to complete so plan ahead! See more information HERE. 

We invite you to our first PTO Meeting of the school year! All SPES families are welcome, whether you're a current member or not. The side doors will open at 5:45pm and the meeting will start at 6:00pm in the Media Center. Childcare will be provided in the Gym. Don't forget to stop by FroYo House for our 1st Tuesday Fundraiser before or after the meeting!

Our first meeting will be chock full of important information to help you get the school year started off right! Items that will be discussed include:

• approving our fiscal budget for 2026-2027
• introducing our PTO Board members
• information about after-school clubs
• Fall Festival updates
• Ways to volunteer including Chessie, lunch & recess monitors and more! 
• a special presentation from our new school guidance counselor, Mrs. Dennison! 

Keep in mind that this is one of only three in person meetings the PTO will be hosting this year and it will be a great time to get to put some faces with names and to find out all of the excitement that lies in store this year. We'll see you there!

Join us for our annual school community celebration! This year's Fall Festival is planned for Friday, September 25th from 5:30-7:30pm. We will have more inflatable obstacles courses and bounce houses in year's past, carnival games, DJ & Live Music, food, raffle/silent auction, and much more! Make sure to join the PTO before you buy your ticket to snag a great deal! Remember this event is open to the entire community so spread the word! 

The Fall Festival is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and its success depends on the support of our amazing volunteers. From organizing games and activities to coordinating food, decorations, sponsorships, and day-of-event logistics, there are many opportunities to get involved. Many slots only require a 30-minute commitment and many are available to older siblings as well as parents.

Please join us in welcoming Ms. Aalisa Thoms, our new Attendance/Registrar Secretary, to Severna Park Elementary! 

You’ll find Ms. Thoms sitting at the desk to the right of Mrs. Boring when you enter the main office. She’ll be there to assist families when students arrive late or need to be signed out early.  

Ms. Thoms is already a familiar face to many of our families, as she has been at SPES for the past 4 years as an assistant in Special Education and then Pre-K!  She has 4 Bobcat alumni of her own and she also loves the pool and has been an aquatics instructor of the past 26 years. In those very few moments of downtime she has; Ms. Thoms enjoys crocheting, reading books and spending time outside with her children. We’re so excited to have her continue to be a part of our SPES family in her new role!

Brand new agenda books are hot off the press courtesy of the PTO. These will be used throughout the school year by 3rd, 4th & 5th graders. 

We are grateful to have such a talented staff at Severna Park Elementary School!
