Volunteer with the PTO

 

The SPES PTO is proud to offer fun and enriching programs for our students, but they can't exist without volunteers. Throughout the school year we will post volunteer opportunities for events, activities, or general requests from SPES staff, which provide meaningful ways to interact with students and experience the school environment.

 

PLEASE NOTE THAT AACPS HAS ANNOUNCED A NEW POLICY FOR VOLUNTEERS/CHAPERONES EFFECTIVE 10/1/26:

 

Beginning Oct. 1, 2026 AACPS will require ALL volunteers/chaperones to be fingerprinted. This is in an effort to strengthen requirements and improve safety and security for students and staff. Those who currently have a valid commercial background check on file (the one processed via an online form) may continue to volunteer until it expires, at which point they MUST complete a fingerprint supported background check. Fingerprint appointments can be scheduled through the Fingerprint Office, located at the AACPS Central Office 2644 Riva Road Annapolis. Appointments can be made Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:00pm at 410 222-5045. The cost is $61.75.

 

It is the understanding of the SPES PTO that any separate background checks done through an employer or another organization does not translate for this purpose and anyone looking to volunteer with the school needs to go through this process with AACPS. Once a fingerprinted background check is completed, it is valid for that individual until your student(s) exits AACPS. Please visit the AACPS website for the most up to date information.

The entire school community looks forward to this fun back-to-school celebration filled with inflatables, games, music, food, prizes, and much more! BUT our biggest event of the year doesn't come together with out amazing volunteers. From manning a ticket table to running games, or handing out prizes, there is no shortage of ways to support. Boone's Backyard | Various Weekday Mornings

Boone's Backyard is the native garden and courtyard area serving as an outdoor classroom for SPES. Help us tame the weeds and get it ready for student use. Sign up to enjoy a quiet morning in the garden weeding (no experience necessary).

Recess & Lunch Monitors

 Want to see what your child's day is like at school? We're looking for volunteers to help as lunch and recess monitors! All volunteers must have an approved AACPS background check. It's a fun way to support our school and spend a little time with our students. Sign-up here!

Kindergarten: Lunch @ 10:15-10:45am, Recess @ 10:45-11:15am
1st/2nd Grade: Lunch @ 11:20-11:50am, Recess @11:50am-12:20pm
3rd/4th Grade: Recess @ 11:25-11:55am, Lunch @ 11:55am-12:25pm
5th Grade: Recess @ 10:15-10:45am, Lunch @ 10:45-11:15am

Please note 2 important reminders about volunteering:

 

1) Only individuals who have completed the AACPS Background Check are permitted to volunteer in the school.

 

2) The SPES PTO organizes and presents volunteer opportunities in a centralized location here within our Membership Toolkit site. Registration for a Membership Toolkit account is FREE (you do not have to be a PTO member, but it is appreciated!) and allows you to consolidate all your sign-ups and reminders in one place. We also provide the option of signing-up as a guest without an account of any kind but we have learned it reduces the ability for the front office to see a full list of registered volunteers. We are grateful for your support in any manner that makes you most comfortable!
